Guardian Ad Litem

A Guardian ad Litem is an attorney appointed by the Court, in both domestic and juvenile cases, to protect the rights and advocate the best interests of a child involved in a Court proceeding. A Guardian ad Litem focuses on the unique circumstances and needs of each individual child and accordingly will make recommendations to the Court. When serving as a Guardian ad Litem, The Baker Law Group is charged at a minimum with each of the following activities and responsibilities:

  • Investigation: The Baker Law Group carries out an objective, systematic examination of the situation, including relevant history, environment, relationships, and needs of the child. We also interview family, friends, neighbors and members of the child's school.
  • Facilitation: The Baker Law Group identifies resources and services for the child and facilitates a collaborative relationship between all parties involved in the case, helping to create a situation in which the child's needs are met.
  • Advocacy: The Baker Law Group conveys the best interests of the child to the court and relevant agencies
  • Monitoring: The Baker Law Group keeps track of whether the orders of the court, as well as the plans of other relevant agencies, are carried out. The Baker Law Group respects each child's inherent right to grow up with dignity in a safe environment that meets that child's best interest and welcomes the opportunity to be an advocate for children as a Guardian ad Litem.
